Teaching Notes – supporting notes for teachers

Focussing on four of Shakespeare’s tragedies and illustrated from on the collections held in the libraries that make up the Britain in Print partnership and others, this section aims to provide students and teachers with a study tool which can be used in the classroom or at home. The plays covered are: -

• Antony and Cleopatra
• Hamlet
• King Lear
• Othello

Taking key passages from each of the plays, “Themes in Tragedy,” offers a textual analysis with links to commentary, themes, contexts, character and language.

One of the key objectives of the Britain in Print project was to develop online learning resources that draw on the strengths of the collections of the partner libraries to create unqiue learning materials that would be available free of charge to all. Accordingly three resources have been created, two of which cover a literary theme, whilst the third is historical.
