Four passages from King Lear have been chosen to enable you to develop your understanding of the dramatic tensions in these scenes and in the play as a whole. A number of questions are asked on each scene and the brief interactive exercise which accompanies each question requires you to examine the language, characterisation or thematic development of each passage to enable you to access the commentary and analysis provided. Students should not necessarily agree with the opinions given, but all are supported by textual reference or quotation.
All references to the text relate to the Arden Series 3 edition (ed. R.A. Foakes, Thomas Nelson & Son, London, 1997).
