Antony & Cleopatra
Britain in Print
Act 2, scene 2 - lines 184-250
In this extract, the three men, Enobarbus, Maecenas and Agrippa, are reunited after a separation of many months. Their immediate sense of camaraderie shows them to be comfortable in each other’s company, an amity that underscores the evil of civil strife that will erupt through the conflict between Caesar and Antony. In this exchange, Maecenas and Agrippa, who have been attending Caesar in Rome, are eager to learn the truth of reports they have heard about the extravagant lifestyle of Antony in Egypt. Listen again to lines 184-193.
